Richard (Dick) E. Beaupre

Beaupre, Richard (Dick) E., a resident of Barrington for over 30 years passed away peacefully at his home on March 25, 2018. Dick was the son of the late Edmund Beaupre and Doris Plant Beaupre. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Swanson Beaupre, his three sons, Richard M., Dr. Stephen R., David P. and his daughter in-law Robin, as well as his five grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda, Laura, Joshua and Jeremy. He was the brother of James and the late Walter and late Kenneth Beaupre. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He honorably served in the Navy from 1956 to 1958. He earned a BS degree in Chemistry in 1962 from the University of Rhode Island. He worked as a research chemist at Rohm and Haas and Hunt Chemical from 1962-1968. From 1968 to 1976 he worked for Dynachem Corporation as a research director where he developed and patented many revolutionary processes with dry film photo resist polymers. In 1976 he co-founded ChemArt Company with his wife Barbara, a global leader in the manufacturing of photo etched metal ornaments, jewelry and industrial components. One of their proudest accomplishments is designing and manufacturing the annual White House Christmas ornament.
Dick was an active and generous URI alumnus. In 2006 he earned an honorary doctorate from the University of Rhode Island. In 2016 the University dedicated the new chemistry building, the Richard E. Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences in honor of his generous philanthropic contributions to the University. He served as an active board member for the URI Foundation. He also established two scholarships; the Beaupre Family Scholarship which provides financial assistance to Rhode Island students who wish to return to school and are married, single with children under the age of 18, as well as the Hope and Heritage Foundation.
Dick had many interests and hobbies. He was an honorary board member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic because of his love for classical music. He was a generous contributor to many charities. He was also an avid sailor and golfer. He owned, raised and showed King Charles Cavaliers throughout his life, all of which he loved and took great pride in. He was a hobbyist who built and collected model trains and planes. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and loyal employees.
His funeral will be held on Thursday March 29, 2018 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Funeral Liturgy in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Please accept my very sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Beaupre. I didn’t know him personally, nor do I know any of the family personally, but I can tell you very honestly that Mr. Beaupre has had a profound impact on my life. As a single parent, I was awarded a Beaupre Family Scholarship to return to college to finish my degree . Without it I would never have been able to do so. In two months, I will walk the stage in front of my 12 year old daughter- and it is solely because of Mr. Beaupre and his generosity. Words can seldom ease the pain that your family is feeling right now, but please know that there are so many of us that will forever hold him and the rest of the Beaupre family in our hearts.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Beaupre family during this time of sorrow. I remember Dick fondly when he would come into the JB Cubed office. He had a great sense of humor and was very kind to me.

Dick will be sadly missed, he was a great inspiration to me personally during me PhD studies and I have the highest respect for him and what he achieved in his life. Rest in peace
Dick was a leading member, Past President and Director of the Photo Chemical Machining Institute, an international trade association. He was well known, respected and a giant in the Photo Chemical Machining industry in the US, Europe and Asia and recognized as a pioneer in developing this technology. He was well liked, helpful to me and many others and will be missed. My condolences to his family.
Grandpa was an amazing person. Always kept a smile even when he wasn’t feeling good. Me and my daughter had a fun spending time with him every week. We will all miss him greatly. Dick was great example for me and everything related my business and life, a great man with an incredible sense of humor and attention to take care of people need assistance.
I have worked for Dick for 32 years, he will be dearly missed. I am forever grateful for his compassion and my career. This is such a sad day for all his employees.

It was with great sadness that I was informed today of Dick’s passing.
As you know, he and I enjoyed 55 years of close friendship, including many of them as colleagues. He was truly an unusual man, with many interests and much creativity. His kindness and generosity was exemplary.
I will truly miss him.
As an 18 yr. employee at Chemart I have the highest respect for Mr. Beaupre. He was always kind and pleasant to his employees and treated each and every one of us well. He would often come by and have a story or a joke that just hit the spot, you just had to smile or laugh. Dick, you will be missed greatly by all of us.
