George E. Shea

Date of Passing:

June 22, 2025

George E. Shea, 87, formerly of Roberta Drive in Barrington, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, at Crestwood Nursing Home in Warren. He was the former husband and best friend of Barbara L. (Remington) Shea of Warren.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the beloved son of the late Albert A. and Frances (Studley) Paulhus. George made his home in Barrington for over three decades, where he built a life centered around family, community, and service.

George served as a Special Police Officer for the East Providence Department for 27 years, always responding to the needs of his community with compassion and care. He also worked as a Maintenance Superintendent for the State of Rhode Island for 28 years, where his tireless work ethic and quiet diligence earned the respect of his colleagues.

A proud Navy veteran, George served his country during the Korean Conflict. His sense of duty and honor continued well beyond his years in uniform, reflected in the way he lived every day—with humility and courage.

A passionate community member, George volunteered as a coach for the Barrington Pop Warner Football Team from 1999 to 2004, leading them to a runner-up finish in the 2000 New England Championship. But more than wins and losses, he was known for his ability to inspire and uplift the young athletes he mentored. He was a devoted Notre Dame Football fan.

In his later years, George found joy in crafting handmade birdhouses, a quiet labor of love that brought delight to his neighbors and beauty to the community he cherished.

George was a man of quiet strength, deep integrity, and boundless generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love that touched everyone who knew him. Though he has left this world, George’s spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the hearts that loved him.

George is survived by his two daughters, Cathleen Medina of Riverside and Lisa Fisher of East Providence. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Amanda Medina and Daniel Duarte and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Margaret Reposa and Frank Shea.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Crestwood Nursing Home for the compassionate and dedicated care they provided

His Funeral will be held on Thursday June 26, 2026 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday 4-7 p.m.
