Richard H. Hess
Date of Passing:
Richard H. Hess, 77, of Wampanoag Trail in Riverside, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2026, at AdviniaCare Summit Commons in Providence. He was the devoted husband of Gail (Cinquegrana) Hess, with whom he shared 52 cherished years of marriage.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of the late Richard H. Hess and Ethel (Quinn) McNellis. He made his home in Riverside since 1985, where he built a life centered on hard work, family, and enduring friendships.
Richard was a dedicated and hardworking man who took great pride in his career. He was the owner and operator of the former Best Pest Control for 33 years, retiring in 2018. Prior to that, he served as a district manager for the Kmart Corporation for 19 years. His strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to those he served left a lasting impression on all who knew him professionally.
He attended Penn State University, and his connection to the school remained a lifelong passion. A devoted Penn State football fan, Richard was a season ticket holder who would often driving 800 miles roundtrip just to cheer on the Nittany Lions at home games—a testament to his loyalty and enthusiasm.
Richard proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army Reserve.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong sense of responsibility, and the simple joys he found in life—especially time spent with those he loved and cheering on his favorite team.
Besides his wife Gail, he is survived by his three children, Kristin L. Phillips of North Scituate, Kyle R. Hess of Chepachet, and Amanda E. Hess of Coventry. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Bradley Williams, Savannah Phillips, Lana, Noah, and Bodhi Hess, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Tull of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and his nephew, Adam Allison.
A private burial will be held at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.
