Huff, Alice J., 98, formerly of Riverside Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on May 20, 2020 at the Linn Health Care Center, East Providence.

Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Manuel and Sadie (Sousa) Fontes, she lived in East Providence for 57 years.

Alice was a graduate of Rhode Island College Class of 1944 and earned her Master’s degree from Rhode Island College Class of 1966.

Mrs. Huff was a Teacher for the Seekonk School Department for 34 years before retiring in 1984.

Alice was a communicant of St. Brendan’s Church and was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by two sons, Clinton H. Huff Jr. of Groton, MA and Richard A. Huff of Cranston; five brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Vanner of East Providence, Patricia Fontes of Hopkinton, Jacqueline Fontes of East Providence, Robert Fontes of East Providence and William Fontes of Foster; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Eugene Fontes, Lawrence Fontes, Mildred Moniz and Shirley White.

A private family Funeral Service will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. A Celebration of her Life will be held at an appropriate future date.

Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Alice’s memory to the Linn Heath Care Center, 30 Alexander Avenue, East Providence, RI, 02914 would be deeply appreciated.

  2. My sister-in- law Alice was one of the most genuinely kindest people I ever knew. She was not only a great Mom, Aunt and Grandma ,a dedicated reading teacher, a wonderful friend but also an ever-caring sister and daughter. When my ailing husband,her brother Larry, was so ill ,Alice would visit every day and bring a sense of love and peace. My children and I send our deepest sympathy to the family. Alice will be in our thoughts and prayers forever.Love to all
