Fontes, Alice Jenny (Coelho), 66, of Hazard Avenue died peacefully Sunday July 24, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife and best friend of William ‘Bill’ H. Fontes Jr. to whom she was married for 45 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Mariana ‘Chubinha’ Gomes and the late Anthony J. Coelho.

Alice had worked as an administrative assistant. After working 10 years for Atlantic Richfield Co., she resigned to stay home and raise the pride and joy of her life, her children, Billy and Erica. She returned to work in 1990 for the East Providence School Department where she retired in 2012.

She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Baptismal team. She also was a volunteer for Scholarship Foundation of East Providence, Inc for 20 years. Alice enjoyed sewing, knitting, scrap booking, traveling and being with her family and friends.

Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Alice immediately experienced her kindness and gentle spirit. She never had an unkind word towards anyone. Alice will be remembered for her beautiful smile, love, and compassion for others.

Besides her husband and mother she is survived by a son William A. Fontes and his wife Heather, a daughter Erica L. Fontes, a sister Barbara E. Coelho, a brother Caesar A. Coelho, a sister-in-law Janice M.Fontes, two grandchildren whom she simply adored, Mila C. and Qunicy H. Fontes, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and the best friends ever.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 29th from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Ave. Riverside at 9am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue East Providence at 11am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours Thursday, from 4-8:30pm with a tribute starting at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, and Scholarship Foundation of East Providence, Inc.
