Blain, Ann, L., Burns, 82, formerly of Allerton Avenue, died peacefully in Charlotte, NC, on Sunday, March 3, 2013 with her children at her side. She was the beloved wife for 31 years of the late Joseph C. Blain.

Ann was born in East Providence on February 21, 1931 to the late John F. and Katherine Leonard Burns. She was sister to the late Mary Burns Denning and the late Rhoda Burns Harvey, both of East Providence. She graduated from Sacred Heart School, St Xavier’s Academy, and the Katherine Gibbs School.

She worked part time for several years during the 1960s at Brown University, and she returned to Brown in 1983 as secretary to the Dean of Students at Brown’s Medical School. During her years there she was given the ‘Brown Says ‘Thank You’ Award for exemplary work on the University staff.

She retired from Brown in 1996 to spend more time with her grandchildren and to pursue her lifelong avocation as a seamstress, knitter and needleworker. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 2008.

She is survived by her four children: the Rev. Susan A. Blain of Cleveland, OH; Mary Jo Andrews (Gregory) of West Hartford, CT; Jean B. O’Neil (John) of Charlotte, NC; and Joseph G. Blain of Milton, MA, and by her four cherished grandchildren: Hannah and Matthew O’Neil, and Peter and Christina Andrews. Ann is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Blain Fagan, and by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Friday March 8, 2013 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 7:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul, Cathedral Square, Providence at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday morning 7:45 am- 8:45 am.
