Anna S. Florenzano

Date of Passing:

January 26, 2022

Florenzano, Anna S. (Pompeii), 100, of Anoka Avenue, Barrington, died peacefully at the home of her son in Eden Prairie, MN on January 26th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife for 56 years of the late Joseph A. Florenzano.

Born in Barrington, a daughter of the late Crescenzo and Maria (Cioe) Pompeii, she was a lifelong resident of Barrington.

Mrs. Florenzano was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and president of Women’s Guild during the building years. She enjoyed cooking up fabulous meals, baking, knitting, crossword puzzles, and visiting with her family in Rhode Island and Minnesota. She exhibited prowess on the basketball court while in high school, setting scoring records for the varsity women’s team at the time…a talent not passed on to her somewhat athletic sons.

Anna was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She graduated at the age of 16 from Peck High in Barrington. She was a homemaker caring for her 2 sons when her husband Joe was injured at his workplace. She decided to take a temporary clerical position at the RI Dept. of Education to help the young family make ends meet. She enjoyed the work and made a lifelong career there, eventually elevating to a managerial position allocating federal title grants to towns throughout the state. As a promoter of education she found this work very fulfilling.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Florenzano II (Judie) of Edina, MN and David J. Florenzano (Anne) of Eden Prairie, MN; Grandchildren Ashle, Eric, and Kevin Florenzano and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Louis Pompeii, John Pompeii, Barbara Lomastro, Phyllis Oliva, and Angela Acciardo. She was the grandmother of the late Zachary Breck Florenzano. Special thanks to her caretakers Mary Sousa, Amanda Richards, and Jane Wallis in her later years. She loved their care and companionship.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday February 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. A Private Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Del Campo Cemetery, Upland Way, Barrington. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Anna’s memory can be made to the Barrington Education Foundation http://www.barringtoneducation.org/donation/
