Matrone, Anthony, S., 83, of Grassy Plain Road, Riverside, died peacefully on April 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Loretta (Barile) Matrone.

Born in Bristol, a son of the late Santa and Anna (Arcello) Matrone, he lived in Riverside for 49 years.

Mr. Matrone was a lead printer for the former Cellophane Products Inc. for 38 years before retiring in 1992. He then was a medical courier for 17 years at PMG, owned by his nephew Richard Santilli.

Anthony was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School Class of 1948 where he played basketball and baseball. In 1948, he was the second leading hitter in the State of Rhode Island with a batting average of .408. He was inducted into the Bristol Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.

Mr. Matrone was a communicant of St. Brendan Church and was a former Riverside Little League Baseball Coach.

Anthony was a United States Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen A. Matrone of Cranston and John P. Matrone of Urbana, Maryland; a brother, Santa W. Matrone of Bristol and four grandchildren, Joanna Arrighie, Jessica Gardner, Michael Matrone and Jeffrey Matrone.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2014 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
