Barbara E. (Wyllie) Koerner, 98, of East Providence, Rhode Island, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2025 at Jane Brown Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Mark P. Koerner Jr. The two were married for 65 years. The Koerners were long-time Rhode Island residents living in locations like Lincoln and Barrington. They resided for 35 years in Gilford, New Hampshire. They both were very active at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Pawtucket, Barrington Baptist Church and in Concord Baptist Church in NH

Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late David Y. Wyllie and Annie (Marsh) Wyllie.

Barbara took pride in volunteering. She volunteered at Barrington College for many years and was a volunteer for the Lakes Region Hospital in Laconia, NH for over 30 years.

Barbara enjoyed sailing with her husband and spending time with her family consisting of three beloved grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Susan W. Sutton of Barrington, RI. Her three grandchildren, Stacey Lavers (and husband Jayson) of Manchester, CT, Bethany Fitzpatrick (and partner Rob Nichols) of Greene, RI, and Jesse Sutton (and wife Lindsay) of Amesbury, MA.

She will be missed beyond measure by her nine great grandchildren: Matthew Fitzpatrick (19), Benjamin Fitzpatrick (17), Sophia Lavers (16), Thomas Fitzpatrick (14), Ella Lavers (14), Finn Sutton (10), Lukas Sutton (10), Bobby Nichols (9), and Clara Nichols (7).

Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Barbara’s memory can be made to the Barrington Christian Academy, 9 Old County Road Barrington, RI 02806.

There will be a graveside service in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington in the spring of 2025.

  1. We feel your loss. Mom’s are special people and your mom was special to so many of us who knew her over the years. Always a smile on her face, a Godly woman of faith. She will be missed.

  2. Sincere condolences from Richard and me on your family’s deep loss. Barbara was a fine Christian woman. We always enjoyed being in her company at family gatherings. How comforting to know that she is now with her Lord, and is reunited with her husband Mark. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Sue and also with your family.

  3. Mrs. Koerner was a big part of my growing up life at Barrington Baptist Church. Both she and Mr. Koerner showed Jesus’ love in numerous ways to me and I am thankful for the influence they had on my life.

  4. The Nobles have a long history with the Koerners. So much life shared over the years. Sue, may our friendship be as long lasting as our Moms’. I’m happy your Mom is in heaven but mourn with the family as a big hole is left. May faith sustain and comfort you all.

  5. I feel so blessed to have know Barbie for over 30 years. Sue, Stacey, Bethany and Jesse, there are no words for your loss. We send love and prayers for comfort, and peace in knowing that Barbie is reunited with her Lord and with Mark and all the others that have gone before.
