Porter, Barbara J., (Lavin), 77, of Brookhaven Drive, East Providence, died peacefully on December 10, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger N. Porter.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas B. Lavin Jr. and Rose (Scott) Lavin, she lived in East Providence for 50 years.

Mrs. Porter was a Secretary at Brown University for 13 years before retiring in 1993. She was also the co-owner and treasurer of the former Lavin’s Marina, Barrington.

Barbara was a communicant of St. Luke Church and a member of the Barrington Women’s Club.

She enjoyed reading, watching television shows, gardening, bible study, arts & crafts, crocheting and solving puzzles.

She is survived by three daughters, Kimberly A. Ascenio of East Providence, Kristine L. Travis of Rumford and Kelly L. Vieira of Rumford; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert M. Lavin of Riverside, Paul B. Lavin of North Providence and Rev Bernard C. Lavin of Cumberland; a sister, Maryanne Bender of South Carolina and her devoted dog RJ. She was the sister of the late Thomas S. Lavin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington on Monday December 19, 2022 at 10 a.m. Calling Hours will be held in the Church from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Barbara’s memory to St. Luke Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI 02806 or Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 would be deeply appreciated.
