Charles L. Blackmar Sr.

Blackmar, Charles L.,Sr, 78, of County Road, Barrington, died peacefully on December 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous two month battle with stage four lung cancer. He was the husband of the late Rachel P. (Lemoi) Blackmar.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Alden H. and Martha C. (Carlson) Blackmar, he was a lifelong resident of Barrington.

Mr. Blackmar was an insulator for Local #31 for 33 years before retiring in 1995. He also served in the Rhode Island Air National Guard for 33 years.

Charles was a member of the Bristol Elks Club.

The Blackmar family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff on the 8th floor at Rhode Island Hospital and Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island for the care they provided for Charles.

He is survived by four sons, Brian C. Blackmar and his wife Lori of Barrington, Dean A. Blackmar of Barrington, C. Leonard Blackmar and his wife Pam of Swansea, MA and Michael A. Blackmar and his companion, Christine Legault of Riverside; five grandchildren and three great-granchildren. He was the brother of the late Alden “Skip” Blackmar and Sandra Rossi.

His funeral service will be held on Friday December 28, 2018 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Warren.

Calling hours are Thursday 4-8 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Charles memory to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, RI 02886 would be deeply appreciated.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I had the honor of serving with Charlie from 1986 until his retirement. Togerher, Charlie and David brought me on many advetures around the world, we worked hard and always had fun. Some how they took me from a green Airman to a SNCO. I never would have made it without them

Charlie always had a way of making you laugh. I loved all the family time we spent together. Always in my thoughts.

  4. To the Blackmar family: Charlie always had humorous stories about his “guys” when they were growing up. I was very fortunate to serve with Charlie in the Rhode Island Air National Guard…he was a one of a kind GREAT guy. Very saddened to hear of his passing.   5. Having relocated out of state I’ve not had the good fortune to be with Charlie for a generation. His photo captured his good nature and humor so perfectly well. Everyone will agree that he was a peach of a guy and a good family man with a charming disposition.

  8. To Charlie’s entire family, we are so sorry for your loss. He was my Dad’s right arm, Charlie was always there for him. Dad was just telling me stories about their outings to Chelo’s On The Water, He would pull out chairs to sit down, but Charlie would not sit there, but my Dad would and Charlie would Keep going around to the other end of the bar, so when Dad turn to talk to Charlie, he would say hey Dave I’m over here then start to laugh. That is just one of many jokes Charlie would do and one of many great times they had together. Charlie will be greatly missed. Our family could never thank him enough for being there for my Dad, Charlie was his best friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
