Cherry, Clifford F. Jr., “ Chubby” 77, of Scranton Avenue, Warwick died peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 23, 1946 a son of the late Clifford F. Cherry Sr. and Consuelo V. (Foster) Cherry. He was a resident of Warwick for 28 years, having previously lived in East Providence and California.
Mr. Cherry was a 1964 graduate of Hope High School, Providence and Roger Williams University class of 1971 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Early in his career he was employed with the ITT Grinnel Corporation and Beckman Industries in Long Beach, California. For the love of family he returned to Rhode Island. Mr. Cherry retired as a civil engineer from the Rhode Island Department Of Transportation after working 20 years. He later opened and operated his own business Capital Curbing serving all of Rhode Island.
“ Chubby” as he was so affectionately known, enjoyed golfing especially with his sons and brothers, dancing, traveling and singing. He was “The King of Karaoke” singing Frank Sinatra songs which was always a crowd pleaser. He was an avid football and basketball fan.
He was an active member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center. Chubby will be remembered by so many for his kindness, wit, warmth and smile. He was truly a people person. He was well loved and will be sadly missed by all who shared his life.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher D. Barron and his wife April of Cranston and Matthew O’Connell of New Jersey, five brothers, Theodore Cherry and his wife Rhonda, of Johnston, David Cherry and his wife Monica of Warwick, Michael Cherry and his wife Sharon of Riverside, CA, George Cherry of East Providence, and Dennis Cherry and his wife Marjorie of Warwick, two sisters, Denise Cherry of Providence and Kimberly Shields and her husband Ray of Upper Marlboro, MD, 11 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend Julie Coelho and his dog Miley. He was the brother of the late Charlene Barros and Robert Cherry.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 12 noon in The W.RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. Visitation from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.

Chubby, we bonded over golf and had many laughs sitting at the bar at the CV Club. After all the years of talking about playing a round of golf together it never happened on earth but we will one day. You even offered to let me tag along on your family CA vacation so I can play golf in CA for the first time. Going to miss you my friend. Until I see you again, hit them straight.
Joe and I enjoyed anytime with Cliff. Great candor and amazing voice. Such a joy.to be around. Classy man. Truly will miss your smile and laughter. Love you Cliff❤️

To the entire Cherry family… Chubby will be missed by so many. I’m not usually at a loss for words but this truly leaves me with a heavy heart and also a reminder for us all to not put off getting together, seeing friends, and MAKING TIME for each other. Many times I remember asking Chubby to sing Found Someone of My Own and he’d always smile and say I don’t know if I know that one. A few minutes later he’d be up and singing it masterfully as he did everything else he did with style, class, dignity and a smile I’ll definitely miss Chubby but I am forever thankful for friendships that have been decades strong..
a very funny man with great wit.and lets not forget he could sing all the great standeds. my favorite is summer wind.Chubby, you will truly be missed.

In this time sorrow we should remember all the good times we all shared with our Chubby. I always say ‘if you come in, you will one day return home,,, so, what you do while you’re here is most important. We all know that’s what Chubby did, he touched all of our hearts. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Cherry family for their loss. I was filled with great sadness upon learning of Chubby’s passing, he was a friend to so many of us and he will be dearly missed, especially on Tuesday nights karaoke at the CV Club.
He loved to sing songs by Frank Sinatra, and he did a great job with his rendition of “The Summer Wind” and “I did it MY Way”.
Chubby’s family is very close and if you see one brother there’s a very good chance that another brother’s not too far away. His brother George did Karaoke at Snubs for many years and his family was always there to support him as well as to join in the fun because they’re all great singers. I’m sure that almost everybody remembers “The Cherry Brothers” from back in the day.
Rest in peace my friend as you are reunited with your parents and siblings who predeceased you.
To the family, you now have a new guardian angel to watch over and protect you, until we meet again.
