Moore, Clifton A., 91, of Rumford, died peacefully on December 5, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Douglas) Moore.

Born in Cambridge, MA., he was the son of the late Vera Moore and lived in East Providence for 54 years.

Mr. Moore started his professional career in retail in Boston. He then worked for the Internal Revenue Service in the Midwest and New England. Following this, he was the President of the Business Development Company of RI/Business Opportunities Incorporated. Clifton later served as the Director of the Department of Business Regulations for the state of Rhode Island and the interim Executive Director of the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Rhode Island.

Mr. Moore was involved in numerous organizations including the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the NAACP, the Urban League, Automobile Club of Rhode Island, Roger Williams Hospital, URI Foundation, Church of the Epiphany, Turks Head Club, Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the United Way and Rumford Little League.

Mr. Moore was a United States Army Veteran serving in Europe during WWII.

Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Clifton A. Moore Jr., of Rumford and his partner Sue Roberts; two daughters, Marilyn A. Johnson and her husband Raymond of East Providence and Theresa M. Moore of Pawtucket and three grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Morgan Johnson and Briana Johnson, all of East Providence.

His funeral will be held on Saturday December 9, 2017, from the W.RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a funeral service at the Church of the Epiphany, 1336 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.

Calling hours are Friday from 4-8p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Clifton’s memory to either the United Negro College Fund, 321 Columbus Avenue #11, Boston, MA, 02116 or Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904.

    I was so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Our fathers were track meet buddies back in the day when you and Brenda were friendly competetors. He took time to hand write a thoughtful letter to Bren when our dad died unexpectedly in 1981, and in it he told her to ” keep the faith”. I pass his words of wisdom to your family as you treasure a lifetime of wonderful memories.
