David A Johnson, 59, of Barrington, RI, dedicated family physician, avid golfer and diehard Yankee fan, passed away on August 6, 2014 after his brave battle with cancer. David found great joy in skiing and traveling with his family and was appreciated for his unique sense of humor. He was blessed with a loving wife of 31 years, Linda (Holleran) Johnson and four devoted children, Nicole (Johnson) Barrick and her husband Thomas of Canton, Massachusetts, Meagan Johnson of Barrington, RI, Gregory Johnson of East Boston, Massachusetts and Peter Johnson of Barrington, RI. Born in Dover, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Arnold and Olga Johnson and the stepson of Frances Johnson of Marcella, NJ. His passion for the Yankees and the New Jersey shore was shared with his two brothers, Peter Johnson and his wife Gertrude of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Christopher Johnson and his wife Jeri of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by two stepbrothers, Reggie MacQuesten and Michael MacQuesten. David was a graduate of the University of Vermont and the University of Medicine & Dentistry in New Jersey. For the past 28 years, he was professionally devoted to caring for his patients as the owner and sole physician of the Portsmouth Medical Center on Chase Road in Portsmouth, RI.

Besides his immediate family, he is fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, Catherine Holleran of Peabody, Ma, a step mother-in-law, Susie Holleran of Venice, Florida, sister and brother in-laws; Kathleen and Stephen Gaspar of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Joanne and Frank Legro of Barrington, Rhode Island, MaryEllen Holleran New Caanan, Connecticut, Thomas and Susan Holleran of Peabody, Massachusetts and Andrea Holleran of Norwell, Massachusetts. He shared a loving relationship with 19 nieces and nephews and 5 grand-nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father-in-law James C Holleran , brother-in-law, James C Holleran, Jr. and his step brother William MacQuesten.

He opened his home and heart to Lucas Diniz of Brazil, Nathalia Londono Cuervo and the children of Hogares Luz Y Vida Orphanage in Bogota, Columbia. Besides the unconditional love and support from his family, David was fortunate to have many good friends who comforted him throughout his illness.

His funeral will be held on Friday August 8, 2014 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 a.m. followed by a private burial.
