Derrick K. Watson, 70, of Abbott Street, Cumberland, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Bronx, New York, Derrick was the beloved son of the late Alexander and Mary (Gethers) Watson. He was a proud graduate of Adelphi University in New York, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and laid the foundation for a successful career in information technology.

Derrick went on to work as an IT Analyst for United Healthcare for 8 years, where he was known for his diligence, integrity, and quiet strength. He also worked for CVS Health-Aetna and CVS/Caremark and Verizon Fios.

Mr. Watson was a consultant for the Center for Urban Community Services, NY, a Housing Coordinator Supervisor for Common Ground Community, NY and an Operators Coordinator in the Office of the Bronx Borough President, Bronx, NY.

Derrick was a resident of Cumberland for the past 18 years.

Besides his wife, Lugean, Derrick leaves behind his cherished children: Jelani Watson of New York, NY; Dalila Watson of Poughkeepsie, NY; Justin Braggs of Charleston, SC; Amanda Watson of Carrollton, VA; Kwasi Watson of New York, NY; and Melissa Watson of Norfolk, VA. He was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Gail Watson.
Derrick’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and the enduring power of family. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A Funeral Service and Calling Hours will be held at the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside, on a date and time to be announced.
