Lowell, Dorothea I. (Hird), 94, of Lyman Street, Riverside died peacefully on January 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John H. Lowell.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John C. and Gertrude (Swailes) Hird, she lived in Riverside for 72 years.

Mrs. Lowell was a cook for the East Providence School Department for many years.

Dorothea was a communicant of St. Brendan Church. She enjoyed cooking, her summer house “The Salty Pines” and spending time with her loving family.

She is survived by her children, John H. Lowell Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Foster, Charlene M. Creighton of Warren, James K. Lowell and his wife Ellen of East Providence, Maryann E. Rodrigues and her husband Daniel of North Attleboro, MA and Karen A. Perry and her husband David of Riverside; a sister Thelma McLaughlin of Jamestown; a sister in law, Sheila Hird of Florida, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gertrude Zaram, Shirley Bell, Charles and Wallace Hird.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday January 26, 2018 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Calling hours are Friday morning 9-11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Through you she has left her mark all over the world…wherever you have been the life qualities she shared with you pass on to those you encounter; hospitality, compassion, shared joy, sense of humor, love of life and love of family.
