Dorothy N. Duane

Duane, Dorothy N., 92, formerly of Anson Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on October 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late David C. Sampson and the late William Duane.

Born in Riverside, a daughter of the late Wallace and Margaret (Hammill) Pye, she was a lifelong resident of Riverside.

Mrs. Duane was a cafeteria aid for the East Providence School Department at Riverside Jr. High School for 23 years before retiring in 1988.

Dorothy was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Riverside Circle and a member of the East Providence Senior Center.  She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed baking, gardening, camping and knitting.

She is survived by two sons, Arlow D. Sampson and his wife Connie of Pawtucket and David C. Sampson Jr. of Florida; a daughter, Margaret C. Sousa of Riverside; three step-children, Kathy Latorella, Merri Forsythe and Joanne Larner; a sister, Margaret E. MacRae of Virginia; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.  She was the sister of the late David Pye and step-mother of the late William Duane Jr.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday October 21, 2017 in the Riverside Evangelical Covenant Church, 165 Rounds Avenue, Riverside at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.  Contributions in Dorothy’s memory to the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Avenue, East Providence, RI, 02914 would be deeply appreciated.

  4. Margie and Arlo and family I am so sorry for your loss. She was such a wonderful loving person and friend to me. I am so happy I got to see and speak to her one last time. You were Blessed with an amazing Mother and I was Blessed to have her as my friend if only for a short period of time. May she rest in peace with the Angels. God knows in my eyes she was an Angel here on earth. Till we meet again Dorothy I’ll see you “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. <3
