Bernardo, John, R., Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., 84, formerly of Nayatt Road, died peacefully on March 24, 2011. He was the husband of Dolores F. (Beauvais) Bernardo.

Born in Bristol, a son of the late Dr. John R. Bernardo Sr. and Emily C. (Ruggiero) Bernardo, he lived in Barrington for 40 years.

Dr. Bernardo graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Class of 1949 and Tufts Medical School Class of 1953. He was on the staff at Rhode Island Hospital as a practicing general surgeon for over 50 years.

Dr. Bernardo held a teaching and research appointment at Brown University’s School of Medicine as a clinical assistant professor of surgery for many years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children; Janet B. Searles of Barrington, John R. Bernardo III Esq. of Wakefield, Joanna E. Gentile of Westport, CT, Christopher A. Bernardo of Barrington, Robert F. Bernardo of Barrington and Mark A. Bernardo of Barrington, a brother; Dr. Anthony A. Bernardo of Bristol and twelve grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ralph A. Bernardo Esq.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday March 30, 2011 in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 am. Burial will be held in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol. Arrangements are by the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, Riverside.
