Costa, Edward Angel “Jose” Sr., 88, of Riverside, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Son of the late Antonio Costa and Maria Luz, he was a first generation American. He grew up in Fox Point, RI next to his childhood sweetheart who would eventually become his wife.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War, earning the title of Sergeant. He loved his country. You would often find him decked out in patriotic attire. Whenever he was happy, he would say “God Bless America!”

He worked at AJ Oster Company for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 59. He enjoyed his retirement traveling with his family, tanning in the sun, playing cribbage, spending time with his grandchildren, and always could be found with a glass of red wine in hand.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Louise M. Couto; two children, Edward and Darlene Costa; two grandchildren, Alexandra (Costa) Benevides and Arielle Costa; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Benevides; one brother, Louis Costa Sr.; one sister, Elaine Conaty; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, 60 Turner Avenue, Riverside on Saturday January 23, 2021 at 9am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and will be private. Calling hours are respectively omitted. Arrangements are by the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, Riverside.
