Santos, Edward, C., 81, of Circuit Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on February 16, 2010 at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Martha A. (Williams) Santos.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Manuel and Georgelina (Rocha) Santos, he lived in Riverside for 40 years.
Mr. Santos was the secretary and treasurer of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local #328 from 1967-1985. He previously was a meat department manager at the First National Stores for 21 years.
Edward was a communicant of St. Brendan Church. He was past President of the CFL Council and past member of the former East Providence Primmer VFW Post. He was a member of the Fox Point Boys Club Hall of Fame and the East Providence Braga club.
Mr. Santos was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by three sons; Steven E. Santos of Riverside, David P. Santos of North Smithfield and Robert W. Santos of West Warwick, a sister; Alice Furtado of Coventry, a brother; Manuel C. Santos of Warwick and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Walter C. Santos.
His funeral will be held on Friday February 19, 2010 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10:30 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
