Edward Russell Weber of Riverside, RI died peacefully with family by his side, on January 19, 2011 at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home in East Providence, at the age of 90. He was the husband of the late Maria (Mahutte) Weber. He is survived by his three daughters, Marianne Sheldon and her husband Edward Sheldon of Savannah, GA; Evelyn Cucknell and her husband Ian Cucknell, of Surrey, England; Harriet Moore and her husband Kevin Moore of Riverside, RI; ten grandchildren and six great granddaughters. He is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Powers of Niles, MI; Mary Ann Weber of Canaan, CT; and a sister-in-law Joan Weber, also of Canaan, CT. He was predeceased by two brothers, John L. Weber of Seattle, WA and Lewis T. Weber of Canaan, CT, and his sister, Harriet M. Willard of Columbia, SC.

Born in Ithaca, NY, the son of John Leroy and Evelyn (Winship) Weber, Mr. Weber also lived in Trenton, NJ and Limerock, CT. He always had a love of ships and sailing, and designed and built his first boat in his early teens, sailing it on the river near the family’s home in NJ. He graduated from Webb Institute, NY in 1942 with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He began his career in shipbuilding with the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporation in Tacoma, WA, and the Waterman Steamship Co. in Mobile, AL, followed by two years as operating engineer on cargo ships. During this time he met and married Maria Mahutte from Rotterdam, Holland and later they settled in Rowayton, CT, where he was partner of Norge Boats, Inc., a yacht design and import firm.
