Elizabeth Briden

Date of Passing:

April 24, 2019

Briden, Elizabeth “Betty”, 91, formerly of Burton Ave. Riverside, passed away on April 24th. She was the mother of Linda Spies and her husband Hank, Robin Anjoorian, Robert Briden and his wife Barbara and grandmother of Matthew Briden. She was the sister of the late Iris Mello, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and opening her home to all of their friends and to every needy animal her children brought home. She was also known for preventing the sanding of the hill in front of her home that all of these children used for sliding during the winter. She was always so pleased to be stopped while out in public in later years by someone who would tell her how they remembered her from “Burton Hill”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on Thursday May 2, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Friday May 3, 2019 in Saints Matthew & Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel Road, Barrington at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted, but would appreciate contributions to the Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow Street, Providence, RI, 02903 in her memory would be deeply appreciated.

  1. My mother was Betty’s childhood best friend. When Betty was little, and the kids made fun of her because she didn’t have a mother, as her mother passed away, my mother befriended her. Now, they are together again, Home, with the Lord. My condolences to Betty’s loved ones.

May the Lord glorify and illuminate her soul.

  2. Linda, Robin, and Bobby, I’m so sorry to hear about the death of your mom. She was a very special lady. I remember the sanding of the hill, the fun sleep overs, hot cocoa and home made donuts. Your mom never hesitated to take a stand for all of us neighborhood kids. I only heard about her passing yesterday. I’m sorry I didn’t attend any of the services. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sincerely Connie

  3. Dear Linda, Robin and Bobby,
Here come the memories flooding back . Two little girls from 62 coming to see us at 68 often with their Mom and,at times, seeming like a second family (1953) Bobby came later with Auntie Hilda.
Betty was always a good neighbor and a better friend. We lost touch later but I
never forgot her and will miss her knowing she is no longer here. ( We even remember the sanded hill)
This comes my deepest sympathy and fond wishes to you.
    Phyllis and Janice

  4. Linda, even though we never knew your mom, we knew how much she meant to you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
    Love,
    Robin and Dave

  5. Linda, Robin, Robert, my deepest condolences to your family at this time of loss. I think of all those winters we slid down that hill and into the Lowell’s front yard. Your mom made the world a nicer place and will always be remembered every time I drive past Burton Ave.
