Scannell, Ellen, (Dalton), 97, of Atria Bay Spring Village, Bay Spring Avenue, Barrington, died peacefully on August 28, 2016. She was the wife of the late William H. ‘Herb’ Scannell Jr.

Born in Marlborough, MA, a daughter of the late Martin J. and Josephine C. (Hickey) Dalton, she lived in Barrington for 52 years.

Mrs. Scannell was a graduate of Radcliffe College Class of 1940 and was a member of its Alumni Association. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Social Work at Boston College Graduate School Class of 1942.

Ellen volunteered at hospitals in Yonkers, NY and Lowell, MA. She was a 25 year volunteer at Hattie Ide Chaffee Nursing Home and was a member of the Hattie Ide Chaffee Auxiliary.

Mrs. Scannell was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.

She is survived by two nephews, William Herbert Scannell III of New York and Raymond F. Scannell Tacoma Park, MD and two nieces, Zayda Stewart of Chicago, IL and Astrid Long of Bayonne, NJ.

Her funeral will be held on Friday September 2, 2016 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church, 341 Maple Avenue, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Marlborough, MA.
