Stopfel, Elwood, C., ‘Woody’, 84, died peacefully on August 29, 2015 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Ann (Kean) Stopfel to whom he had been married to for 37 years.

Born in Palymia, PA, a son of the late Elwood C. and Bernice (Batdorf) Stopfel, he lived in Barrington for many years.

Mr. Stopfel was a line technician for New England Telephone and NYNEX for 36 years before retiring in 1991.

Elwood was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son; Stephen Stopfel; a daughter, Elizabeth Glanvill; a granddaughter, Tara Kuthan; a step-son, Michael Kean; a step-daughter, Kathy Schafer; two step-grandchildren, Owen Schafer and Amy Schafer and seven sisters, Doris, Joanne, Jean, Mary Lu, Nancy and Kay of PA and Linda of FL. He was the husband of the late Joan (Larkin) Stopfel and brother of the late Larry Stopfel and Lorraine Keller.

His funeral service will be held on Friday September 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. James Lutheran Church, 49 Middle Highway Barrington. Calling hours will be held in the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington.
