Devaney, Ethel R., 92, of Atria Bay Spring, Bay Spring Avenue, died peacefully on February 28, 2014. She was the wife of the late Andrew O. Coutu and the late Edward H. Devaney.

Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Morris) Fratus, she lived in Barrington for eight years previously residing in East Providence for 84 years.

Mrs. Devaney was a Head Bank Teller for the former Fleet Bank, Barrington, for 25 years before retiring in 1987.

Ethel was a communicant of St. Luke Church. She enjoyed golfing, painting, crafts and playing cards.

She is survived by a son, Andrew O. Coutu and his wife Elizabeth of East Greenwich; a stepdaughter, Deborah Devaney Barton and her husband Ned of Barrington; four sisters: Edna Crevier of Riverside, Elaine Fratus of Riverside, Esther Gould of Brunswick, Maine and Eunice Bishop of Melbourne, Florida; five grandchildren: Jennifer Coutu Powell, Sarah Coutu, Justin Coutu, Jed Barton and Bradford Barton and seven great grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Curtis Barton.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday March 6, 2014 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington, at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Calling hours are Wednesday 4 6 pm. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Ethel’s memory to a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated.
