Allen, George, B., Sr., 71, of Circle Drive, died peacefully on November 16, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Karen A. (Tweedly) Allen.

Born in Quincy, MA, a son of the late George S. and Margaret D. (Dolan) Allen, he lived in Barrington for 25 years.

Mr. Allen studied arts and communications at Boston University in 1959 and received his B.S. in English, Speech and Communications from Emerson College Class of 1962.

George was on-air television and radio personality including; hosting, producing, writing and editing broadcast programs. He interviewed internationally renowned entertainment personalities and New England public officials for radio and television programs. He was a Master of ceremonies for a wide range of entertainment events such as, Rhode Island Celebrities America and Providence Civic Center events with special guests such as, Bob Hope and the King and Queen of Sweden. He was the senior producer and host for the, ‘Dialing for Dollars,’ on both Channel 6 from 1979-1993 and Channel 12 from 1967-1970, a television and movie game show that was rated #1 in the viewing audience for Southern New England. The program included live remotes, both locally and from Disney World. He wrote and produced on-air news, weather, sports and public affairs programs for the television and radio programs.

Mr. Allen also founded his own orchestra, ‘Music by George,’ entertaining guests for many years throughout New England. He was an advisor to the New England Institute of Technology and a member of the American Musician’s and Meteorological Society.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son; George B. Allen Jr. of Riverside and a brother; Robert Allen of FL. He was the father of the late Steven K. Allen.

His funeral will be held on Monday November 22, 2010 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
