Murphy, George, E., Jr., 78, of Lottie Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on May 27, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve ‘Ginger’ (Barrows) Murphy.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George E. and Carmela (Manzi) Murphy, he lived in Riverside for 56 years.

Mr. Murphy was an oil burner technician for the former Buckley & Scott for 40 years before retiring in 1994.

George was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #251 and the Warren Portuguese Club. A sports enthusiast he was a devoted lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed fishing and was dedicated to his loving family.

Mr. Murphy was a United States Army Veteran serving in Korea.

He is survived by three daughters; Gloria J. Castonguay of Seekonk, MA, Carleen V. Howe and Debra A. Kent, both of Riverside, a son; George E. Murphy III of Seekonk, MA, a brother; Mike Murphy of North Providence, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Donna M. Peterson.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2011 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
