Gregory M. LaMarre

LaMarre, Gregory M., 63, formerly of Rumford, died unexpectedly on July 8, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Karin Lyn (Peterson) LaMarre.

Born in Providence, a son of Margaret Ann (O’Connell) LaMarre of Riverside and the late Maurice J. LaMarre, he lived in North Dighton, MA for 16 years previously residing in Rumford.

Mr. LaMarre was a member of the East Providence Fire Department for 19 years before retiring as a Captain in 2001.

Gregory received an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from CCRI Class of 1987.

A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics fan.

Greg was a talented sailor who spent many years on Narragansett Bay. He enjoyed reading and bowling and was a member of the Townies Bowling League.

Besides his wife of thirty four years, he is survived by a daughter, Hayley L. LaMarre of Riverside; a son, Dewey E. LaMarre of North Dighton, MA; three sisters, Joyce LaMarre of El Paso, TX, Maribeth LaMarre of Canton, MA and Carolyn LaMarre of Seekonk, MA; a brother, Keith LaMarre of Cape Elizabeth, ME and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of his Life will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on a date and time to be announced. Contributions in Gregory’s memory to Save the Bay, 100 Save the Bay Drive, Providence, RI 02905 would be deeply appreciated.

  2. I am sad and shocked. It has been far too long since Greg and I last went sailing and I miss those days. I wish I had had time to see him before he passed.

  29. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Greg was a fun individual. I admired his sailing abilities (and during me government career years) his ability to find the time to do it. Public service is a very hard thing to do. So the fact he did it for 19 yrs and took on additional responsibilities of a Captain speaks for the person he was.
