Rayner, Helen Louise (McCarthy), 89, of Barrington, died at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, East Providence, on April 11, 2016 after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Douglas Rayner.

Born September 23, 1926 in Providence RI, the daughter of Michael McCarthy and Catherine (Leary) McCarthy, she was a resident of Barrington for over sixty years.

She is survived by her children: Michael of Barrington, Douglas and partner Mark Miller of San Francisco, CA, James of Barrington and his dear friend Anne Kesner of Riverside, Susan and her husband Raymond Budge, and step-daughter Cassie Budge of Framingham, MA, as well as her grandchildren: Joan and Michael of Barrington, Nathan and his wife Monica and their children Peyton, Nathan Jr. and Lailani, of Hampton, VA. She was the brother of the late John McCarthy, brother of Gerald McCarthy of Lafayette, CA, and sister of Marion Goode of Cumberland.

She was a graduate of Classical High School, Providence, 1944, and Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, 1947. She had a career as a Registered Nurse for many years before working as Secretary for Barrington High School until retirement. She was the President and Board Member of the Lucy C. Ayers Foundation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Luke’s Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
