Henry J. Lopes, 79, of Goldsmith Avenue, East Providence, died peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Elmhurst Rehabilitation Center, Providence. He was the companion of Judy Harris.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island a son of the late Manuel S. and Florine R.(Gomes) Lopes. Henry grew up in Riverside. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He carried the title of Marine with immense pride throughout his time served during The Vietnam Conflict. Following his discharge he worked various jobs.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Rhode Island College. He dedicated his professional life to supporting his fellow veterans, embodying the values of honor and loyalty until his retirement.

Henry was a kind, easygoing person who enjoyed sports, playing cards, listening to Motown and Creole music. His love for music started at a young age often playing alongside with his father and uncles at home and family gatherings. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Maria G. Texeira of Moorpark, California, two nephews Kenneth M. Texeira and his wife Celeste of Hiram, Georgia, Steven J. Texeira of Moorpark, California, a niece Michele D. Texeria -Bobo and her husband Derek of Hiram, Georgia, four great nephews, two great nieces, several great-great nephews, nieces and cousins. He was the brother of the late Manuel S. Lopes Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend His Committal Service on Thursday, April 2, 2026 in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, Wampanoag Trail, East Providence at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow.
