Horton, Herbert John, 70, a lifelong resident of Riverside, died peacefully on May 31, 2016. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Herbert V. Horton and Esther Agnes Horton, brother to the late Esther Eileen Williams, uncle to the late Mary and Kathy Horton and Lance Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia Ann Horton, his brother Robert E. Horton and his wife Madeline of Warwick, two nephews, Ronnie and Glenn Williams of Arkansas and a niece, Wendy Glass of Tennessee.

Herb was a graduate of Carlisle Military School, Bamberg, SC and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University, Smithfield. He was a Systems programmer for the Providence Journal Co. retiring in 1996 after 28 years of service. He was a self-employed computer consultant until retiring in 2001.

Herb served in the U.S. Army, obtained the rank of Sergeant and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #15, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #273, the 11th Armored Calvary Blackhorse Association and a past Treasurer of the United Veterans Council of Rhode Island.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday June 4, 2016 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Olivet Memorial Park Cemetery, Riverside. Calling hours are Friday 5-8 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
