Prendergast, Howard, D., 86, of Wilson Avenue, Rumford, died on June 28, 2015. He was the husband of the late Anne E. (Carroll) Prendergast.

A lifelong resident of East Providence, he was the son of the late Howard J. and Mary (McKenna) Prendergast.

Mr. Prendergast was the owner and operator of the East Providence News Service for 40 years before retiring in 1982. He was the President of the Prendergast Realty Corp. He graduated from Sacred Heart School and attended LaSalle Academy.

Howard was a communicant of St. Margaret Church. He was a lifelong member of the Rumford Knights of Columbus. He was a former treasurer of the Shamrock Society of Rumford.

Mr. Prendergast was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by two sons, Howard D. Prendergast Jr. of Greenfield, MA and Paul E. Prendergast of Johnston; four daughters, Jayne A. Prendergast-Reo of Johnston, Sue C. Prendergast and her husband John Amaral of Johnston, Beth M. Purcell and her husband Arthur of Jacksonville, NC and Kate M. Prendergast of South Kingstown; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary A. Lange, Joseph T., Rita M. and E. Ann Prendergast.

His funeral will be held on Thursday July 2, 2015 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery.
