Ashton, James A., 68, of Middle Street, Riverside, died peacefully on August 26, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Linda S. (Breault) Ashton.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George E. Ashton Jr. and Isabel A. (Redfern) Ashton, he lived in Riverside for 53 years.

Mr. Ashton was a Quality Control Manager for the Cable & Wire Companies for 40 years before retiring in 2004.

James was a past Master of St. Andrew Lodge #39. He enjoyed reading history and gardening.

Mr. Ashton was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam era.

Besides his wife of 47 years, he is survived by a daughter, Tammy L. Brierley of Riverside; a son, Thomas J. Ashton of Riverside; a brother, George E. Ashton III of Rehoboth, MA; a sister, Joyce B. Catlow of East Providence and five grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday September 2, from 4-8 p.m. in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday September 3, 2016 in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery Columbarium Committal Center, 301 South County Trail, Exeter at 9 a.m.
