James E. Barbary

Barbary, James, E., 74, of Gray Street, died peacefully on December 16, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Kennedy) Barbary.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Leo J. and Marjorie E. (Reilly) Barbary, he lived in North Providence for 12 years previously residing in Warwick.

Mr. Barbary was a bus operator for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority for 27 years before retiring in 2002.

James was a graduate of East Providence High School Class of 1958. He was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 618, Ireland’s 32 Society and the Irish Ceilidhe Club of RI. He enjoyed traveling and was a NASCAR fan.

Mr. Barbary was a United States Air Force Reserves veteran.

Besides his wife of 9 years, he is survived by two sons; John R. Barbary of Seekonk, MA and James D. Barbary of FL, two grandchildren; Heather T. Barbary and Connor J. Barbary, two great grandchildren; Christopher and Addison, three step-children; Justin Moan, James Moan and Megan Liberty, three step-grandchildren; Brenden, Evan and Miles, a sister; Dorothy Cashman of Warwick and two brothers; Leo J. Barbary of East Providence and Donald F. Barbary of Framingham, MA.

His funeral will be held on Thursday December 19, 2013 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, Taunton Avenue, East Providence at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday 4-8 pm. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in James’s memory to Ireland’s 32 Society Scholarship Fund,P.O.
