James T. Martin

Martin, James T., 78, of Linden Ave, Rumford, died peacefully on July 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Castro) Martin.

A lifelong resident of East Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Frazier) Martin.

Mr. Martin was a salesman for the Wonder Bread Co., Cranston for 35 years before retiring in 2002.

James was a former member of the H.G.B.B. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, softball, baseball, bike riding and spending his winters in Florida.

Mr. Martin was a United States Army Veteran.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by a son, James T. Martin of Middletown, CT; a daughter, Penny M. Martin-Trudeau of Rumford; three grandchildren, Joshua Trudeau of Rumford, Khylie J. Trudeau of Rumford and Sascha G. Martin of Providence; a brother, Robert Martin of FL and his beloved and devoted dog, Spike. He was the twin brother of the late Joseph Martin and brother of the late Paul Martin, Jack Martin and Peggy Costa.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Church of the Epiphany, 1336 Pawtucket Ave, Rumford on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at 11 a.m.

Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Jim’s memory to the Tomorrow Fund, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI, 02903 would be deeply appreciated.

  1. We were so sorry to hear about Jim. We are his friends from Iowa who loved to play tennis with Jim (Rhode Island Jim) in Florida. His great sense of humor and his love for the game of tennis was a treasure to us all. He is now home with his heavenly Father and we will always treasure the memories we made in Florida with Jim.     He was one of the best, and heaven received a great guy.
    We have such fond memories of Jimmy on the tennis court in Florida, and times spent visiting analyzing the games at the trailer. Dale especially will miss his Patriots buddy.

    We were so sad to hear about Jim. We have so many fond memories of you both, here in Florida. We looked forward to seeing you both each winter, and when we visited RI. He will be greatly missed by all! I will make sure to cheer extra during the Pats football games in memory of him and his love of the team!   8. So sorry to hear of your fathers passing Jim. He seemed to be very proud of your accomplishments in life. He was your #1 fan when it comes to tennis. I watched him cheer you on at many tournaments. He enjoyed seeing your consistent improvement over the years. I met him a few times and he was a true gentleman.
