Long, Jane, E., (Thompson), 76, of Houghton Street, died peacefully on October 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of David A. Long.

Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Thompson, she lived in Barrington for 52 years.

Mrs. Long a teacher’s assistant for the Barrington School Department for 26 years before retiring in 2003. She also volunteered to read for elementary school children.

Jane was a graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1956 where she then became the Head Pediatric Nurse at the hospital. She then went on to become a pediatric nurse at Rhode Island Hospital for six years.

Mrs. Long was a member of the East Bay Choir for many years.

Besides her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her children, Gary W. Long and his wife Susan of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Jennifer G. Lavallee and her husband Charles of Warwick and Stephen G. Long of Barrington; four grandchildren, Evan, Katie, Sarah and Kyle and a sister, Gail Brownsord of Kissimmee, FL.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on Saturday October 11, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. Burial will be held in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, ME. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
