Janet Cornell Powers

Janet Cornell Powers, of Barrington, RI died peacefully at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence after a long battle with breast cancer.

Janet was born in Providence, RI, in 1960. She was the 4th of 6 children born to William R Powers III and Sarah S Powers. She grew up in Barrington, attending Nayatt School, Barrington Middle School and Barrington High School. Janet was an avid reader and was happiest combing the beaches of Rhode Island looking for treasures.

Janet worked for many years in the restaurant and hospitality industry and earned a reputation for her mentoring and high standards. She managed popular restaurants in Connecticut and Rhode Island but for the last decade of her life she lovingly cared for her mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She is survived by her children, Steven J. Silvia of Manchester, CT, John M .Sweeney Jr. of Woonsocket, RI and Samuel R. P. Sweeney of Glastonbury, CT as well as her siblings, Sarah P. Frese, Donald W. Powers and Rebecca R. Powers. Her brothers Christopher J Powers and William F Powers predeceased her, as did her parents.

    Janet was a beautiful person like her older sister. I read about her caretaking for your Mom. What a loving and kind tribute. So sorry to hear about her passing. They have come a long way re: women’s cancer with ports following Chemo. Just not fast enough, I pray for you all to remember her. So sorry for your loss.

  7. I am truly saddened by Janet’s passing. She fought a courageous battle against her illness. She is now at peace that she is so deserving of. I extend my sincere sympathy to all of Janet’s family and friends especially my nephews. Keep your Mom’s spirit alive in your heart. I will remember Janet always with fondness.

  8. This is so sad to hear. I just loved Janet, she was a delightful person who always brightened the holidays with her presence. She cared very tenderly for her mother; it was inspiring. My most sincere condolences for all the Powers family.
