Ryding, Joan, (Alexander), 90, formerly of Linden Avenue, Rumford, died peacefully on December 9, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Cyril A. Ryding.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Dorothy (O’Neill) Alexander, she lived in Rumford for over 50 years.

Mrs. Ryding was a graduate of St. Xavier’s High School Class of 1943 and Rhode Island College Class of 1947. She was an English Teacher and Counselor for the Tri-Town Community Action from 1982-1988.

Joan was a communicant and former C.C.D. Teacher at St. Margaret’s Church. She was a member of the American Association of University Woman. She enjoyed reading and spending time at the ocean with her family.

She is survived by her six children, Mary E. Shorrock and her husband Stephen of Cumberland, Joseph A. Ryding of Marblemount, WA, Joann D. Ryding-Beltes and her husband Panos of Thessaloniki, Greece, Christopher A. Ryding and his wife Susan of Taunton, MA, C. Allan Ryding and his wife Julie of Novi, MI and Elizabeth R. Alexander and her husband Eric of North Kingstown; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph and Gerald F. Alexander.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday December 17, 2016 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
