John T. Lonergan

Lonergan, John T., 72, of Park Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on May 22, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Sharon E. (Davis) Lonergan.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas F. and Mary A. (Ferry) Lonergan, he lived in Riverside for 42 years.

Mr. Lonergan was a mail handler for the United States Postal Service for 31 years before retiring in 2018.

John was a communicant of St. Brendan Church. A sports enthusiast, he was an avid golfer and a member of the Brown University and United States Postal Service Golf Leagues. He was a devoted Providence College Basketball, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.

Mr. Lonergan was a United States Marine Corp Veteran.

Besides his wife of 45 years, he is survived by three sons, Jay P. Lonergan and his wife Terri of Riverside, Michael C. Lonergan and his wife Tammi of Duxbury, VT and Brian J. Lonergan and his wife Shanna of Riverside; three sisters, Kathryn M. Lonergan of Troy, NY, Mary E. Lonergan of West Greenwich and Ann F. Dempsey of South Kingstown and six grandchildren, Caitlin, Hayley, Thomas, Grant, Brianna and Riley.

A private family Funeral Service will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside followed by Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in John’s memory to the Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen, 55 Turner Avenue, Riverside, RI, 02915 would be deeply appreciated.

  2. My family movd into my home May,1966; 54 years ago this week. When your family moved in the neighborhood changed. No more crazy lady trying to commit suicide on 4th of July. The boy’s had someone to play with. With those thoughts in mind, my family sends it’s deepest condolences to you all. John will always be in your heart’s and minds.
