McBride, John, W., Sr., of Rumford, died peacefully on Friday April 22, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Ann ‘Nancy’ (Marsden) McBride. They had been married for 55 years.

Born on February 14, 1939 in Seekonk, MA, John was the son of the late Lawrence H. and Hazel (Luther) McBride, he lived in Rumford for 28 years previously residing in Barrington for many years.

Mr. McBride served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked most of his life as a tractor trailer driver, retiring in 2005 from Mobile Technology Inc. During retirement and until the time of his illness, he was employed as a school bus driver for Ocean State Transit in East Providence.

John was a faithful communicant of St. Margaret Church. He was a member of the Irish Ceilidhe Club of Rhode Island and Ireland’s 32 Society.

Besides his wife, he was the loving father of Maureen McBride Bellamy and her husband James of Barrington, John W. McBride Jr. and his wife Carla of Rumford and Kathleen McBride Jackson of Barrington. He is also survived by a brother, Lawrence McBride and a nephew, Stephen McBride and his wife Jayne, all of North Kingstown. He was ‘Poppy’ to 10 grandchildren, Alison McBride Butler and her husband John, Sean, Bridget, Nicholas and Mary McBride, Meagan, Owen and Grace Bellamy and Liam and Erin Jackson.

His funeral will be held on Thursday April 28, 2016 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Seekonk Cemetery, Seekonk, MA.

Calling hours are Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in John’s memory to St. Margaret’s Church Memorial Fund, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford, RI, 02916 would be deeply appreciated.

  1. Sincerest sympathies to John’s family and friends. He was my second cousin on my mom, Beverly Ann (Swanson) Beals-Roderick side. wish I had seen this soon, but I too lost my stepdad just a few months prior.
