Joseph C. Caito
Date of Passing:
Joseph C. Caito, 88, of Whipple Avenue in Barrington, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved companion of Marilyn R. Peltier.
Born in Providence, Joseph was the son of the late Francesco and Liberata (Gaglia) Caito. A lifelong resident of Barrington, he proudly graduated from Barrington High School in 1955, later being honored with induction into the Barrington High School Hall of Fame—a testament to his enduring legacy and impact on the community.
Following his service in the United States Army, Joseph pursued his education with the same determination and spirit that marked every chapter of his life, earning a bachelor’s degree from Johnson & Wales University. He went on to dedicate many years of loyal service as the shipping and receiving manager for the J. Royal Co., where his strong work ethic and quiet leadership were deeply respected.
Joseph’s life was one of faith, tradition, and community. A devoted communicant of Holy Angels Church and a proud member of the Sons of Italy, he found meaning in connection—with his heritage and his neighbors. Whether playing a lively game of poker, cheering on his favorite sports teams, or lighting up a room with his sharp wit and humor, Joseph had a gift for bringing people together.
Above all, Joseph was a man of integrity, warmth, and devotion—proudly serving his country in the United States Army, and living a life grounded in kindness, humility, and strength.
He is survived by his nephews, Scott M. Caito of Kentfield, CA, and Todd C. Caito of Alpharetta, GA; his great-nieces and nephews, Lanie, Kimberly, Madison, Andrew, and Jack; and his sister-in-law, Eileen Caito of Barrington. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Caito. He also was a cherished part of Marilyn’s extended family.
Joseph Caito will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him—and remembered always for his unwavering devotion, generous heart, and the joy he brought to every life he touched.

When Joe got engaged to my mother-in-law 25 years ago he became a major part of our family in every way. Joe was incredibly unique and special.
I am sure for Joe, it could be a little overwhelming at times as he, all of a sudden, had many new family members in addition to his existing family, and experiences that he may have never expected to have. All of mom’s grandchildren’s weddings, that he was a part of as well as the lives of all of many grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus family, gatherings and events; holidays, birthdays, vacations and family births and passings – Joe was an integral part of all of these.
Some of my favorite memories are Joe attending school plays and sports events and standing and cheering for those kids that were also his family. But my greatest memory of Joe was the many times that we would get together with him and he would take me aside and tell me what a great life he had with Marilyn, my mother-in-law. They each passionately shared their feelings but they also loved – and that was the one thing that Joe always wanted me to know about mom, that he appreciated and was blessed by how much they laughed together and the good times they had.
We will miss Joe.
Joe was a wonderful part of our family and we will miss his stories, love and laughter. He was a special guy and he will be deeply missed!
Joe was a treasured addition to our family for many years. He lit up every room he entered and always brought the entertainment with his stories and jokes. Grateful for the time we had <3
Joe was a cherished member of our extended family and I am very grateful for all of the years and laughter we shared!
Very grateful for the many years Joe was part of our family. Like he did everywhere, Joe brought laughter and caring to many a gathering, whether it was a Holiday celebration or a quiet dinner. We enjoyed many thoughtful discussions and always appreciated his willingness to listen to things from another perspective, as well as to share his ideas, especially because he had strong opinions! 🙂
It has been a pleasure to share these decades. All of my mother’s family appreciate the time they had together and what they meant to each other. It was a good long life, well lived, and we will miss him much!
Almost 30 years of association with Joe at J Royal Company. Many years as fellow workers and the last 12 when I assumed ownership of the company. He was one of the hardest workers one could ask for. His loyalty and dedication demanded respect and he could relied upon when needed. Fun to talk to with a quick wit. The first to volunteer his mother’s fantastic lasagna for the office Christmas party.
One of a kind who added something to everyone’s life.
Joe was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I deeply enjoyed my conversations with him throughout the years. He will be missed.
