Joseph G. F. Mello

Date of Passing:
Joseph G. F. Mello, 83, of Winsor Drive, Barrington, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, surrounded by the love and presence of his devoted family.
He was the beloved husband of the late Ernestine (O’Connor) Mello and the companion of Maureen Marchina of Barrington and Vero Beach, Florida. Born in São Miguel, Azores, Joseph was the son of the late Manuel S. and Maria (Frias) Mello. He made his home in Barrington for the past 17 years, having previously lived in Riverside.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Joseph devoted more than 50 years of his professional life as a drafter for the Maguire Group Inc. in Providence before retiring in 2010. Many in the East Providence community also knew him for his warm presence and service behind the bar at the Metacomet Country Club and the Squantum Association, where he worked for 40 years.
Joseph’s faith was an anchor throughout his life. A communicant of St. Brendan Church, he gave generously of his time as a volunteer on several parish committees.
A proud United States Army veteran, Joseph served during the Vietnam Era, and his love for country was matched only by his devotion to his family. He found joy in simple pleasures—capturing moments through photography, sharing laughter over a game of cards, and spending time with those he loved most.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Christine A. O’Grady of Barrington; his devoted son, Joseph J. Mello and his wife Deana of Seekonk, MA; and his four treasured grandchildren: Sarah O’Grady and her fiancé Sean Gillis, Luke J. O’Grady, Joseph D. Mello, and Brett P. Mello. Joseph also leaves behind his brothers John Mello of Warwick and August Mello of East Providence. He was predeceased by his siblings Anthony Mello, Maria Roy, and Manuel Mello.
Joseph G. F. Mello’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved. His life was full of service, laughter, and quiet kindness. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
His funeral and visitation will be held on Saturday July 19, 2025, in the W RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Joseph’s memory to Riverside Little League, P.O. Box 15331, Riverside, Rhode Island 02915 would be deeply appreciated.

Mike and I had the pleasure of meeting Joe a few months ago for the first time with my Aunt Maureen in Vero Beach. He was the type of man that when meeting for the first time, made us feel as if we were talking to an old friend. We had an instant connection! We are so honored and feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet him. We will always treasure our short visit, and walk along the boardwalk in Vero Beach (and lots of laughs!). We will never forget how friendly and welcoming he was to us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and my Aunt Maureen and her family. Rest in Peace Joe. Love, Susan & Mike
