Aylward, Joyce E., 81, formerly of Sherbrooke Road, Barrington, died peacefully on July 30, 2021 at Tockwotton On The Waterfront, East Providence. She was the beloved wife of Gareth M. Aylward.

Born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of the late Archie and Elizabeth (Shuttleworth) Emmett, she lived in Barrington for 42 years.

Mrs. Aylward was an administrative assistance at the former Narragansett Electric Company before retiring in 1998.

Joyce was a volunteer at the Barrington Tap-In Program. She enjoyed crafts, reading, vacationing on Cape Cod, MA and spending time with her loving family.

Besides her husband of fifty seven years, she is survived by three sons, James P. Aylward and his wife Maria of Athens, AL, Kevin S. Aylward and his wife Kristen of Downingtown, PA and Christopher B. Aylward and his wife Wendy of Rehoboth, MA; six grandchildren, Kelsi, Michael, Ashley, Rebecca, Victoria and Finnegan; two great-grandchildren, Eloise and Amelia and a sister in law, Virginia Emmett of Washington. She was the sister of the late Robert Emmett.

A private funeral service will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Kelsi loved her grandma so much, And I know how much she misses her right now. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed dearly.

  3. Oh I remember Joyce from our days at Narragansett Electric. I still have the sewing basket she gave me as a shower gift. May these words bring comfort as they are intended to: Revelation 21:4 – And he will wipe out evert tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away
