King, M., Louise, 93, formerly of East Providence, died peacefully on Sunday December 23, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Providence on September 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Marguerite (Penney) King. She had been a resident of East Providence for 50 years.
Miss King was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence. She was employed by the New England Telephone Co. (Verizon) for over 40 years.
Before and after her retirement she was active in many volunteer organizations. She was a member of the Rhode Island Permanent Advisory Commission on Women, the Governor’s Commission on Aging, the Silver Haired Legislature, the League of Women Voters, the East Providence Beautification Committee, the East Providence Senior Center and Self-Help of East Providence.
Miss King was most proud of her affiliation with the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was also the recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the New England Telephone Co.
She is survived by her cousins; Stephen P. and Joseph P. Kirby of Barrington, Hugh Penney (Paulette) of Brewster, MA and Ruth Mathewson of Warwick. She was the sister of the late Mary F. King, with whom she lived in entire life and a brother; the late Owen J. King.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday December 27, 2012 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington at 10 am. Calling hours are Wednesday December 26, 2012 from 3-5 pm. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
