DeSilva, Maria A. (Andrade), 96, of Providence passed way peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence on December 22, 2023. She was the wife the late Peter DeSilva.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Jose and Antonia (Costa) Andrade, she was a lifelong resident of Providence.

Maria worked in the manufacturing industry before retiring from the former Kenyon Tool Co in 1997.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church where she was a volunteer for the Children’s Ministry. She was a former member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center. Maria enjoyed sewing, shopping, watching TV and most of all she was an excellent cook of Cape Verdean cuisine which she loved to share with family and friends.

Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Maria immediately experienced her kindness and gentle spirit. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and sense of fashion.

She is survived by a son, Richard DeSilva and his wife Rowena of Providence, a daughter Denise Morris and her husband Howard of North Providence, seven grandchildren Gina DeSilva, Delise DeSilva, Richard DeSilva, Sofia DeSilva, Brandon Jordan, Frincez Araojo and Tracy DeSilva; six great-grandchildren Domingo DeSilva, Gia DeSilva-McKenny, Tia DeSilva-McKenny, Josiah Glover, Christian and Samiya Morin and two great great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Don Pedro DeSilva, the sister of the late Thomasia Williams, Valentino and Louis Andrade.

Her funeral service be held on Wednesday December 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the W.RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling Hours from 10-11 a.m.
