O’Connell, Marion, Janet, (Smith), 86, of Riverside, passed from this world March 8th, 2015 at Orchard View Manor after a brief period of illness.

She was born in Schenectady, NY on February 26, 1929, a daughter of the late John and Amelia Smith. She moved to Riverside in 1938 and married Charles H. O’Connell, the former Finance Director of the City of East Providence.

A communicant of St. Brendan parish, she was a member of the choir for 20+ years. She also was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, taught Line and Ballroom dancing and had been Hostess at Ramada Inn in Seekonk. She was an accomplished accordionist and an avid pianist and organist.

Besides her husband of 67 years, Charles, she is survived by daughters Patricia Corbin of Rehoboth MA, Kathleen Tripp and her husband Kenneth of Louisville, KY, and Eleanor O’Connell of Riverside. She is also survived by her sons Charles O’Connell Jr, his wife Rachel, of Mendon MA and Daniel O’Connell of Coventry RI.

She is also survived by her sister, Constance Parascandolo of Johnston, RI and brother, Cdr John Smith U.S.N. (Ret.) and his wife Elaine, of Florida and NJ. Called Janet by friends, Marion was loving grandmother to 6 grandchildren: Yvette Harbour, and Justin Harbour, both of Kentucky, Eamon O’Connell and Julie (O’Connell) Quinn of Coventry RI, and Charles H. O’Connell III and Sarah O’Connell, both of Mendon MA.

Her funeral will be held on Friday March 13, 2015 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
