Dewhirst, Mary, ‘Peg,’ 85, formerly of Meadowbrook Drive, died peacefully on November 8, 2010 at the Village House in Newport. She was the wife of the late Albert Edward Dewhirst.
Born in New Castle, PA, on December 30, 1924 to the late Eugene and Mary (Robinson) Buckley, she lived in Barrington for 46 years.
Mrs. Dewhirst graduated from New Castle Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Her nursing career began at the Cleveland Clinic where she met her late husband Albert. She worked for many years at Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, East Providence.
Peg was a communicant of St. Luke Church for 46 years. She was an avid bridge player in many groups in Barrington.
Her faith, family and friends were her greatest joy. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Peg at the Village House in Newport. Thank you to all extended family and friends for visits and cards.
She is survived by two sons; Eric Dewhirst and his wife Holly and Dighton, MA and Christopher and his wife Catherine (Canavan) Dewhirst of Rehoboth, MA, a daughter; Mary Lovegreen and her husband Steven of Jamestown, seven grandchildren; Brian, Benjamin, Christopher and Alexander Dewhirst, Nicholas and James Blanton and Jennifer Grace, a sister; Edna Squiglia of New Castle, PA , a brother; Eugene ‘Ben’ and his wife Frances Buckley of New Castle, PA and sister-in-law; Helen and her husband Gerald Cohan of Cleveland, OH.
Calling hours will be held on Friday November 12, 2010 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington on Saturday November 13, 2010 at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Contributions in Peg’s memory to the Village House, Special Unit Fund, 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI, 02840 would be deeply appreciated.
