Mary L. Shepard (Swift)

Mary L. Shepard (Swift) 90, formerly of Peach Orchard Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on October 7, 2023 at the Evergreen Health Center, East Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Almon Swift, Gordon Shepard, and Charles Mallon.

Born in Cumberland, a daughter of the late Albert and Amelia (Roy) Costigan, she lived in Riverside for 30 years and also lived in Punta Gorda, FL.

Mrs. Shepard was a cook for the East Providence School Department for 25 years before retiring in 1990.

Mary was a communicant, Eucharist Minister and member of the Women’s Guild at San Antonio Church in Punta Gorda, FL and was a communicant at St. Brendan’s Church. She enjoyed boating and spending time with her loving family. She was most known by her big smile and contagious laugh!

She is survived by three sons, Raymond M. and Bernadette Swift of Punta Gorda, FL, Norman R. and Joanne Swift of Swansea, MA and Allen T. Swift of Warren; two daughters, Joanne Swift and David Gallot of Seekonk, MA and Donna M. and Jon Geiger of East Providence; eight grandchildren (Lauren, Jen, Holly, Andrew, Kelly, Sean, Alex, and Derek) and nine great grandchildren (and a brother, Jimmy Costigan of Clermont, FL). She was the sister of the late Doris LaFond, Teresa Mongeau “Terry”, Pauline Murphy, Albert and Thomas Costigan. She is auntie to many.

Calling hours will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on Friday October 13, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.

Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Mary’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of RI, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 206, Providence, RI, 02906 would be deeply appreciated.

    Something made me think of you and your mom today. I couldn’t believe in checking online that she had just passed. Although I never met her, I felt as if I knew her from your wonderful stories…. Including her giggles. Sending prayers to all of you.

    Her and My Mother were quite close and were always there for each other.
    I have such fond childhood memories of Auntie Mary and My cousins through the holidays and in the summers on their boat!! May She Rest In Peace.
