Mayer, Mary, N., ‘Sis’ (Leroy), 96, of Byron Avenue, Rumford, died peacefully on February 14, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Mayer.

Born in Oswego, NY, a daughter of the late Charles and Rose May (Annal) Leroy, she lived in Rumford for 61 years.

Mrs. Mayer was a school secretary for the East Providence School Department for 19 years before retiring in 1987.

Mary was a communicant of St. Margaret Church. She was a member of the East Providence Educational Secretaries Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, going to the beach and was an avid sports enthusiast.

She is survived by a daughter; Ellen P. Lowell and her husband James of East Providence, a son; Michael E. Mayer and his wife Cheryl of Riverside, a sister; Ellen Maxon of Oswego, NY, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Joseph F. Mayer Jr. and sister of the late Roseann, John and Francis Leroy.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday February 22, 2014 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
