Batista, Olive, M., 88, of Summit Commons, died peacefully on August 6, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Mario Batista.

Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Antone and Mary (Faria) Rego, she was a lifelong resident of Providence.

Mrs. Batista was the owner of the former Lisbon Dry Goods Store for 45 years before retiring in 1985.

Olive was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.

She is survived by a sister; Rose Nascimento of Riverside, a step-daughter; Maria Henriques of Chelmsford, MA and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces of nephews. She was the sister of the late Agnes Duncan, Joan Simoes, Gloria Ford, Frank and Antone Rego.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday August 10, 2011 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence at 10 am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 5-8 pm.
